Uncle Ned’s Bad Words: egocentric
My first bad word is “egocentric”, that’s E go CENT rik.
Egocentric persons only think about themselves. Although there may be times when egocentric persons think about other persons. That would be times when some egocentric person is thinking about what some other person is thinking about the egocentric person. In any case, however, egocentric persons aren’t thinking about themselves so much as worrying about what others are thinking about them. He (or sometimes even she) needn’t be worried. Most of us are at least egocentric enough that we are most likely thinking about ourselves, and what others are thinking about us. Uncle Ned will risk belaboring* the point with yet another example:
“That guy is so egocentric, he is even ignoring me!”
