“Words are slow.” —C.S. Lewis
To “ponder” something is usually a good thing. It means that you have noticed something which might be significant. In fact, you have decided you will stop everything else that you are doing or thinking just so you can think about that one thing. A good bit of proper pondering, Uncle Ned has found, very seldom disappoints. Yet it is possible that one may engage in too much of a good thing and become ponderous. Ponderous is what you might become if you think about some good thing for so long that you completely forget to enjoy that good thing for what it is. The next few weeks we will be looking at some words that, if you catch yourself saying them, may be warning flags for the ponderously-prone.
